Two Amazing Bathroom Transformations and Summer Home Care Tips

Summer is a great time to tackle home improvements, refresh tired spaces and take care of the maintenance projects that help protect your home throughout the year. At Gercken Construction Services, we have been busy creating more Amazing Bathrooms for Kansas City Northland homeowners. This month, we are featuring two recently completed projects: an updated hallway bathroom and a beautifully redesigned master bathroom.

Dover Master Bathroom Remodel

The Dover Master Bathroom Remodel shows how thoughtful layout changes can completely transform a master bath.

The redesigned bathroom includes a custom shower with an expanded base, tile walls extending to the ceiling and new shower fixtures. A freestanding tub was installed in the corner, along with a custom tile shelf that adds style and convenient storage.

Antioch Hallway Bathroom Remodel

The Antioch Hallway Bathroom Remodel transformed an outdated hall bath into a brighter, more comfortable and functional space for the entire household.

A new jetted tub became the centerpiece of the remodeled bathroom, complete with the necessary plumbing and electrical improvements. New wall panels, updated shower fixtures and a raised showerhead created a polished, easy-to-maintain bathing space.

Summer Home Care Tips

Summer Home Care Tips

While you are enjoying the final weeks of summer, take a little time to check the areas of your home that experience extra wear during hot weather and summer storms.

Check for Water Leaks

Inspect the areas under sinks, around toilets, near tubs and showers and around your water heater. Look for moisture, staining, softened flooring or musty odors. Even a slow leak can damage cabinets, flooring and walls when it goes unnoticed.

Keep Bathroom Ventilation Working Properly

Summer humidity can make bathrooms especially vulnerable to excess moisture. Clean the cover on your bathroom exhaust fan and make sure the fan is moving air effectively. Run it while bathing and for approximately 20 minutes afterward to help reduce condensation and moisture buildup.

Inspect Bathroom Caulk and Seals

Examine the caulk around tubs, showers, sinks and backsplashes. Cracked, loose or missing caulk can allow water to reach areas that are not designed to get wet. Replacing deteriorated caulk is a small maintenance project that can help prevent much larger repairs.

Clean Gutters and Check Downspouts

Leaves, twigs and storm debris can clog gutters even before fall arrives. Make sure water flows freely and that downspouts direct it away from the foundation. Pooling water near the house can contribute to basement moisture, soil erosion and foundation problems.

Look for Storm Damage

Walk around your property after major summer storms and check for loose siding, damaged shingles, broken tree limbs or damaged exterior trim. Catching minor damage early can help prevent water from entering the home.

Replace Your HVAC Filter

Air-conditioning systems work hard during a Kansas City summer. Check your filter monthly and replace it when it appears dirty. A clean filter helps the system move air more efficiently and can improve indoor air quality.

Check Windows and Exterior Doors

Look for deteriorated caulk, damaged weatherstripping or gaps around windows and doors. Sealing these areas can help keep cooled air inside now and prepare your home for cooler temperatures later in the year.

Start Planning Fall Remodeling Projects

Quality remodeling requires careful planning, material selections and scheduling. If you are considering a bathroom remodel, kitchen renovation, basement finish or another interior improvement, late summer is an excellent time to start discussing your ideas.
